Sandblasting Machine is used to impart sanding finish on the stone slabs. The Sandblasting Machine injects on the slab surface a high –speed jet of an abrasive mixture composed of water and sand, or carborundum, or another hard material with high pressure. The Sandblasting Machine gives to the slab a rugged look, very often “soft” and without large bumps. Two kinds of Sandblasting Machines are basically used which both run with compressed air. One Sandblasting Machine has a structure like the bush hammering machines (and is divided in to stationary slab/mobile bench and contrary versions ) and the other is a mobile model. On the first type of Sandblasting Machine the sanding is done by a set of aligned nozzles located on the beam ( with the slab moving on rollers or a belt). Very common Sandblasting Machines are small bridge units for writing, engraving and decorating small tombstones, one of their most common uses. The second type of Sandblasting Machines is a authentic portable unit with a mobile arm providing the jet. These Sandblasting Machines can be used in the work yard, inside the plant or in special sanding rooms, the latter equipped with remote controls that automatically run the cycle and often with a hopper underneath to collect and recycle the abrasive.
Sanding can be done by the Sandblasting Machine on all types of stone although it is most common on marbles in the strict sense and on granite used in large-scale monumental, artistic and funerary works. The sanding process of the Sandblasting Machine is much less aggressive than bush hammering and axing, creating softer surfaces, and can be used on pieces even just 8 mm thick.
