Rock Drills (also called Jack Hammers) are used for various types of surface drilling in the quarries. The rock drills are generally used to drill holes of around 40mm diameter and up to twenty five feet deep. The initial hole is drilled by using a drill rod of 2.5 foot on the Rock Drill. Subsequently, the longer drill rods are used in sequence on the rock drill machine to achieve the desired depth of hole. Different types of Rock Drill machines are manufactured to suit the various requirements of the work load in the quarries. Heavy duty Rock Drills are manufactured for continuous drilling. The simplest form of the Rock Drill is the hand-held manual Rock Drill. This is usually an air-flushed Rock Drill which is driven by compressed air. The compressed air pressure required by the Rock Drill is provided by an air compressor. Water-flushed Rock Drills are also manufactured. The Rock Drill can be used for vertical, horizontal or inclined drilling.
